Park Time is an 8 week horticultural therapeutic programme based in Tunbridge Wells for adults over 18 years old struggling with poor mental health. Participants will attend 8 successive 2.5 hour sessions on Monday mornings where they will carry out practical gardening and conservation work led by trained horticultural staff from Kent High Weald Partnership and supported by a qualified counsellor from West Kent Mind.
The group of 8 to 12 clients will attend all 8 sessions which, through participation in gardening and conservation activities, will offer physical and psychological health benefits, and opportunities to engage with and learn about the local greenspaces and wildlife, meet new people, learn new skills, and experience the wellbeing benefits of nature in a supportive and healing environment.
The ultimate outcome at the end of the programme is to equip participants with the confidence needed to feel comfortable continuing to engage and be active, whether by continuing to volunteer at the site as part of an ongoing weekly volunteer programme, moving on to other programmes, or to independently investigate other volunteering, training or employment options.
