Wildlife Monitors and Citizen Science
We are looking for local people to help us monitor our local wild spaces by recording sightings of wildlife. You can either carry out surveys on our sites, or simply note down things you see on your local walks. Please let us know what you find by emailing us at cmp@khwp.org.uk
Recording Data
Sightings and data can be recorded using the KHWP iRecord app (see below) or if you prefer paper, you can fill in a record form or simply email us with your findings.
The sites we would like wildlife data for are:
- Barnett’s Wood Local Nature Reserve
- Sherwood Lake and Woodland
- Cinderhill Woods
- Hilbert Woods
- Crane Valley Local Nature Reserve, Cranbrook
- Southborough Common
- Snipe Wood
Use our iRecord account to log your sightings
To tell us about any interesting flora or fauna you have seen on our sites you can use our iRecord account to log it. The log in details are:
- cmp@khwp.org.uk
- TunbridgeWells2023
Send us a paper record
Prefer a good old fashioned form? Take one of these forms on your walk and use it to tell us about your wildlife sighting. Fill in as much of the form as you can and it is always helpful to include photos if you can.
Citizen Science Projects
Citizen science is great way to get involved with supporting and learning about nature in your community. It combines professional survey work with volunteer support from members of the public to help increase the scale and effectiveness of important research.
White-letter Hairstreak butterfly and Elm trees in Tunbridge Wells
We are looking for people to help us monitor numbers of White-letter hairstreak butterfly in Tunbridge Wells. This butterfly breeds on elm trees and has largely declined since the 1970s due to Dutch elm disease decimating its main food source. However this butterfly is present in Tunbridge Wells and new disease resistant elm trees are being planted to help support their populations.
If you would like to get involved with this project please email steph.dowling2@kent.gov.uk
